Why Did Luxembourg Pass Dual Citizenship?
LuxCitizenship’s Founder Daniel Atz delivered a speech at the 2nd South American Meetup of Luxembourgish Families in Brazil on June 22nd, 2024. Our Research
The LuxCitizenship Dual Citizen Study
American-born dual citizens now make up equivalent to 2% of Luxembourg’s total population. Brazilians, over 4%.
First launched in 2018 and now in its 5th edition, the Luxembourg Dual Citizen Study combines demographic information, Luxembourgish history, video interviews, surveys and public data to communicate the who, why and where of Luxembourg’s Diaspora in the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.

Since 2024, our professional network for Luxembourg Dual Citizens through ancestry will connect members to build business connections and spotlight businesses owned or managed by dual citizens. In this video, we introduce Márcio May, a Brazilian Olympic cyclist and entrepreneur behind one of Brazil’s largest cycling clothing brands, Márcio May Sports. Now a Luxembourg dual citizen through ancestry, Márcio shares his journey as a cyclist and gives a tour of his clothing production facility in Brusque, Brazil.

Daniel Atz Meets Long Lost Family
In this video series, we introduce more about LuxCitizenship, who is our team and our activities. When a special report on new American-Luxembourgers aired in Luxembourg, LuxCitizenship Founder Daniel Atz’s life changed in an unexpected way. A long-lost relative, Annette Heinen, was stunned to see a 1950s-era photo of her aunt on screen, Daniel’s great-grandmother. Annette quickly contacted RTL, who helped connect the two. This led to an inspiring story of Daniel traveling to Luxembourg to meet his newfound family for the first time, rekindling a long-distance connection that had been lost for decades.

30th Anniversary of Luxembourg Descendants Rosario, Argentina
LuxCitizenship in collaboration with Luxembourg’s national TV broadcaster RTL organized the recording of the 30th anniversary of the group Luxembourg Descendants in Rosario (Argentina). On the 30th anniversary, the group raised the Luxembourgish flag at the National Flag Monument in Argentina’s 2nd largest city.
How Luxembourg’s Elections Work
On April 1st, 2023, ACLUX (The Association of Luxembourg Citizens in Brazil) hosted an event in Florianópolis, Brazil, with over 500 Luxembourg dual citizens and representatives from five Luxembourg political parties. This was the first formal meeting between Luxembourg’s political leaders and the international diaspora of dual citizens. ACLUX Luxembourg Dual Citizen Event | Florianópolis, Brazil
On April 1st, 2023, the Association of Luxembourgish Citizens in Brazil (ACLUX) invited members of parliament and representatives from 5 of Luxembourg’s political parties to participate in an event on Luxembourg’s elections. This was the first formal event held between representatives of Luxembourg’s political establishment and the new Luxembourg dual citizens through ancestry who make up Luxembourg’s international diaspora. In this video produced by LuxCitizenship, different politicians from Luxembourg’s political parties and participants from Brazil gave their opinions about the event.
Minnesota Luxembourg Dual Citizen Meetup 2022
On April 28th, 2022. 54 new Luxembourg dual citizens and their spouses attended LuxCitizenship’s Minnesota Luxembourg Dual Citizen Meetup at the Dual Citizen Brewing Company. The goal was to begin community building among the various Luxembourgers in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Twin Cities area which is the metro area in the United States with the most Luxembourg dual citizens.
Mir Wëlle Bleiwe Wat Mir Sinn: A Request from Luxembourg Dual Citizens in the Americas
On May 9, 2020, a group of people in the United States and Brazil who are current and former applicants to recover Luxembourg nationality set out on a community project. As part of the community effort, each individual recorded a video about what the national motto Mir Wëlle Bleiwe Wat Mir Sinn (We Want To Stay What We Are) means to them. They describe What Luxembourg Means To Them, Why They Are Becoming a Luxembourg Dual Citizen, and Their Futures in Luxembourg. In this video, 28 community members come together to share their message.
