Claim Your
Canadian Citizenship
by Descent

You may already be a Canadian citizen.

In December 2025, the Government of Canada passed Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act that removed the first-generation limit to citizenship by descent. If you have a Canadian ancestor, you may already be a citizen. Book a 30-minute consultation where we
assess your eligibility, review your lineage, and outline your path to proof of citizenship.

30 minutes · Video or phone · Personalized eligibility assessment
After ten years helping Americans recover Luxembourg ancestry, we discovered that 3–5% of our clients have a direct Canadian connection in their lineage. Canadian vital records have always been part of what we do. With Bill C-3 now in effect, we’re positioned to help you claim the citizenship those records represent.

What happens during the consultation?

We review your family lineage, assess whether you likely qualify under Bill C-3, identify what documentation will be needed, and recommend the appropriate service tier. You leave with a clear understanding of your case and next steps — with no obligation to proceed.

Most applicants do not. Proof of Canadian citizenship is an administrative process, not an immigration matter. Lawyer involvement is recommended only for cases with historical anomalies or documentary gaps.
No. Under Bill C-3, citizenship is automatic and retroactive. There is no expiration on your right to apply for proof.
There is no generational limit for those born before December 15, 2025. Parent, grandparent, great-great-grandparent — as long as the direct lineage can be documented.
Yes. Family members can submit together and share one set of generational documents. Each person needs their own application form, photos, identity documents, and $75 CAD government fee. We’ll discuss group logistics during your consultation.

Many clients have overlapping lineages — we may already have key Canadian vital records in your Luxembourg file. Your Canada case benefits directly from research we’ve already done.

No, this is not a traditional citizenship application. It is a citizenship by descent process, meaning you are applying for proof of citizenship you already have through your ancestry. Because of this, there is no deadline to apply.
