Do I need a lawyer for this?
Most applicants do not. Proof of Irish citizenship is an administrative process, not an immigration matter. Lawyer involvement is recommended only for cases with historical anomalies or documentary gaps.
Is there a deadline to apply?
No. Under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, no deadline exists by which you need to file your application.
How far back can the Irish ancestor be?
The most straightforward eligibility to apply for Irish citizenship is open to children and grandchildren of an Irish-born ancestor. In some circumstances, you may be eligible through your great-grandparent if more complex eligibility criteria are met.
Can my whole family apply together?
Yes. Family members can submit together and share one set of generational documents. Each person needs their own application form, photos, identity documents, and will be subject to the Irish application processing fee. We’ll discuss group logistics during your consultation.
