On July 7, 2026, LuxCitizenship reached one of the most important milestones in our history: our 3,000th client received definitive proof of their Luxembourg citizenship. It was a milestone years in the making. And, fittingly, it did not arrive alone. That same day, 17 more citizenship certificates came through for our clients, and the number has kept climbing since. As of July 15, 3,020 LuxCitizenship clients now hold definitive proof of their Luxembourg citizenship.
Behind that single number is nearly a decade of work by the LuxCitizenship team.
From a Small Idea to Thousands of Citizenship Journeys
LuxCitizenship was founded almost ten years ago, in November 2016. We launched our website then, but it didn’t take off overnight. The first clients who would ultimately go on to obtain Luxembourg citizenship began working with us in January 2018. At the time, there was no roadmap for what LuxCitizenship would become.
When we started, well under 3,000 Luxembourg citizens lived in the United States, of whom only about 400 had applied for dual citizenship through ancestry since that became possible under Luxembourg’s 2008 nationality law. By June 30, 2026, that figure had grown to 22,738. Our clients now account for roughly 14% of the entire community of Luxembourg dual citizens in the United States. Put another way, our community of American-Luxembourgish dual citizens is about the size of Reckange-sur-Mess, Luxembourg’s 58th-largest population center.
What This Milestone Actually Means
It’s worth being precise about what happened on July 7, because we track two very different numbers.
The first is clients served — everyone who has begun a citizenship journey with us. By around November 2025, that figure had passed 3,000, and today it stands at 3,467 and counting.
The second, and the one behind this milestone, is clients who have received definitive proof of Luxembourg citizenship — cases carried all the way to a confirmed result. Beginning a process and completing one are not the same thing: for a typical engagement, it takes about three to four months just to gather the vital records needed to apply, followed by a set processing period on the Luxembourg government’s side. So while we welcomed our 3,000th client in November 2025, it was on July 7, 2026 that our 3,000th client crossed the finish line with citizenship confirmed.
Where We Stand Today
Of our 3,467 clients to date:
- 3,020 have received definitive proof of Luxembourg citizenship
- 447 remain in active processes, of whom:
- 122 are currently awaiting a response from the Luxembourg government
- 325 are still collecting and preparing the documents required to apply — a stage that itself typically takes at least four months
The Pace of Confirmed Citizenships
Getting to the milestone of 3,000 bona fide citizens has been a story of relatively slow growth to start out and then much faster growth.
- By the end of 2021, the year of our fifth anniversary, 478 clients had become dual citizens.
- By the end of 2022, the cumulative total reached 1,198 confirmed citizens.
- By the end of 2023, it climbed to 1,614.
- By the end of 2024, 2,038.
- In 2025 alone, a record 630 clients received citizenship, bringing the running total to 2,668, as documented in our 2025 Annual Report.
One of the moments that most marked our first decade in business was the closure, in December 2025, of Luxembourg’s most famous program for obtaining dual citizenship through ancestry — a final deadline that had been extended three times because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past ten years, we’ve maintained a 99.9% approval rate from the Luxembourg government across every application our company has submitted. We could not hold that standard without the diligent work of our staff, and we want to take a moment to thank every team member who has contributed to the success of our community of 3,000-plus bona fide Luxembourg citizens.
