First Meeting Between Luxembourgish Dual Citizens & Luxembourg’s Political Establishment To Be Held in Florianopolis, Brazil

The first large-scale meeting between the Luxembourgish authorities and the new Luxembourgish Dual Citizens through ancestry will take place in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina State, Brazil on April 1st, 2023. The event is organized by the Association of Luxembourgish Citizens of Brazil (ACLUX) with institutional support from the Santa Catarina State Government Department of International Affairs.
On April 1st, representatives of Luxembourg’s political parties will present at the 500-seat Governador Pedro Ivo Theater in Florianopolis for what promises to be a pioneering moment for closer relations between Brazil, Luxembourg, and the new Luxembourgish dual citizens from the Americas. The main focus of this unprecedented event will be an introduction to Luxembourg’s electoral system and presentations of the Luxembourgish political parties to the new citizens. Later this year in October, Luxembourg will hold legislative elections and the ACLUX believes now is an opportune moment to begin facilitating dialogue and understanding between the new citizens and Luxembourg’s political establishment. The meeting will have simultaneous translation and has the partnership of entities of Luxembourgish descendants from North America and Argentina.
The ACLUX is a membership association created in 2019 for Brazilians who have recovered Luxembourgish citizenship through their ancestral origins. Today the number of Luxembourgish citizens living in Brazil exceeds 20,000 people, a significant number for the Grand Duchy, with its own national population of approximately 650,000 inhabitants. As its main objective, the Association seeks to reestablish the sense of belonging to Luxembourg for these new citizens who have recovered both citizenship and their origins. ACLUX provides to its members different information about the culture, education, and customs of Luxembourg. NOTE FROM LUXCITIZENSHIP: While LuxCitizenship is a separate, unrelated entity to the ACLUX, we’ve decided to share information about this event with our community. We think it is important because it is the first major encounter between Luxembourg’s authorities and the new dual citizens through ancestry. We think it’s essential to get the new dual citizens and Luxembourg’s authorities in communication. In recognition of this important milestone and our focus on open communication, LuxCitizenship is proud to sponsor the simultaneous interpretation equipment and headphones for all participants at the April 1st event. We are making this donation in the name of our community of Luxembourg dual citizens in the USA.
